South Texas Autism Resources & Support (S.T.A.R.S.) is a community-based advocacy and support initiative dedicated to helping families across South Texas navigate autism and neurodevelopmental services. S.T.A.R.S was created in response of the need to better access to evaluation, therapies, and reliable source for individuals with developmental differences.
Many Families in South Texas face long waitlist, prolonged evaluations, and difficulties essential services such as ABA Therapy, Occupational & Speech Therapies. S.T.A.R.S. helps bridge these gaps by providing guidance, raising awareness, and connecting families to available support systems.
We work to raise the voices of parents and caregivers who are seeking improved services and more timely access to care as Early Intervention is IMPORTANT. Through education, community outreach, and advocacy, we aim to make a strong connection between families, schools, healthcare providers, and community leaders.
Hello my name is Concepcion Morado and this is my son Alexander. Alexander was diagnosed with a condition called cortical dysplasia at 6 months. Then in 2025 at the age of 3 he was diagnosed with Level 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder. I knew minimum things about autism prior to our evaluation. After receiving our diagnosis I began learning about autism and ways to better help support him and his future.
Through this journey, I realized how difficult life in South Texas for families with children with autism. And it started with the beginning....The Evaluation Process. It took us 1 year to get our evaluation delaying Early Intervention. Then I find out about ABA Therapy and found out we only have 4 BCBA and 2 ABA clinics that are either self-pay or commercial insurance leaving people without Medicaid/CHIP & no insurance at all look for methods to provide this therapy to their child. This is where I decide that it's time to make noise not just for Alexander but the 2,689+ Children in Webb County who may be affected by autism or any developmental disabilities. (ADDM 2022)
This experience is what inspired me to create South Texas Autism Resources & Support (S.T.A.R.S.). My goal is to help other families like mine find resources, understand their options, and feel less alone as they navigate autism services and developmental support . I hope this platform can bring awareness, support, and connection to families who are going through similar challenges.
